Often mistaken for crocodiles, alligators have a wider snout giving a 'U' shaped head whilst crocodiles are 'V' shaped. A less obvious difference is the position of their eyes, an alligators eye's are located more to the side of its head whilst a crocodiles are more on the top. Less widespread than crocodiles, alligators are only found in the USA and China. The chinese alligator is smaller and only a few remain in the Yangtze River.
